{Stairs: The Heart of Building Style
Stairs are crucial in design, serving as both a functional necessity and a architectural highlight. Whether you focus on practicality or design, there’s a stair design that can meet your needs.
{U-Shaped Staircases: Perfect for Luxurious Entrances
A U-shaped staircase includes two flights that run parallel, connected by a landing that makes a U-shaped bend. This option is commonly seen in expansive homes or structures with generous vertical dimensions. U-shaped staircases are space-saving, despite their impressive and elegant appearance. The halfway landing provides a place to pause and can be designed with decorative elements. These stairs are synonymous with elegance and are favoured in high-end homes.
{Curved Staircases: A Classic Style
Curved stairway designs are known by their graceful lines that create a sophisticated, arching motion. Spiral staircases are a perfect solution for tight areas, such as outdoor decks, where space is scarce. Spiral stairway designs can be made from glass, enabling a variety of aesthetic choices. Spiral stairway designs are space-efficient but can be tricky to use for those with mobility concerns or bulky objects. Spiral stairway designs are popular for their artistic design, which adds charm to any space.
{Why Bifurcated Stairs Are a Statement Piece
Bifurcated staircases are known by their impressive, symmetrical design, typically found in grand homes. Bifurcated stairs are recognised for their main flight that splits into two at a landing, frequently turning in contrasting angles. Bifurcated staircases are recognised for their impressive and dramatic design, making them perfect for formal rooms. The layout allows for a balanced look, often decorated with decorative railings, fixtures, or other design elements. Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
